Hi, I’m Alex!

I am a postgraduate researcher, working for the Glasgow Information Retrieval Group at the University of Glasgow. I’m using this space to encourage myself to write about my research. My interests lie primarily within the fields of multi-task learning and explainability in natural language processing; and also somewhat drawn to the areas of (computational) linguistics and informatics.

I work and collaborate on a variety of projects: I am a regular TREC participant (particularly in the Incident Streams track), I am an organiser for the Machine Learning in Science colloquium where we host regular seminars on multi-disciplinary machine learning research, I have also held various teaching and marking assistant roles within my university. I’m hoping that this blog will become a source of useful information for those interested in my research, and hope to share the insights I’ve made along the way.
